February 22nd, 2008

Hot Topics on Judicial Independence, a Foundation of Democracy

Independent judges ensure the predictable and just administration of our laws and rules. But judges and the justice system are under constant and increasingly
more vigorous attack on many fronts, including, for example:

  1. Groups advocating for the politicization of judicial appointments and
    elections.
  2. Groups advocating the penalizing of judges who rule against their belief systems.
  3. Outright threats to sitting judges from both sides of pending cases.
  4. Potential funding and other cuts to the judical branch and more.

These and other current threats to judicial independence affect all citizens and lawyers.

Details for next year's Government Symposium will be posted
once they become available.
