Disaster Relief

Dear Florida Lawyer:

In order to be prepared to help fellow Floridians, should the need arise, we need the help of as many volunteer lawyers as possible. The Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar has in place Statewide Emergency Legal Services Under the Florida Plan to help with this volunteer effort. Volunteers under the Florida Plan provide basic legal services primarily over the phone for low-income individuals in non-fee generating cases. The legal assistance provided counts as pro bono hours for reporting purposes. Volunteer are not expected or required to handle court cases/litigation. The types of legal questions most often asked are related to: landlord/tenant and other housing problems, consumer protection matters, and home repair contracts. Please read the letter attached for more information, and volunteer today by completing the volunteer form below and return it according to the instructions on the form. The Disaster Legal Services Manual is also posted below for your reference.

Thank you for your assistance in helping those citizens of Florida who are affected by disasters.

Sincerely,
Renee E. Thompson, YLD President
